ReadyNAS NV+ and Encryption (TrueCrypt)
I have been looking for a way to encrypt data on my ReadyNAS NV+ for the last couple of weeks and there’s nothing built in, and as of yet, no-one’s written a third party add-on that allows it to happen.
Having previously used TrueCrypt I thought I’d investigate options with that, and due to the fact that you can’t encrypt just a network share the options you’re left with are:
- Make a TrueCrypt container on your NAS box and put all your data in that
- Somehow hook up something iSCSI and encrypt that entire drive.
iPhone, Dropbox, and Password Databases
Just a quick one from me on password databases…
I’ve always used KeePass (http://keepass.info/download.html) with a nice bit of two-factor authentication (you need to know the password AND have access to an file) to secure my passwords, and as such I don’t often know the password to many of my online services.
I’m pretty chuffed that there are a few iPhone apps which now support the KeePass file format, and as well as that (thanks to iOS4) you can open files from the dropbox app inside the KeePass apps and then, with some of them, save the file back to dropbox if you make any changes.
Pretty awesome stuff, and I picked the free one: MiniKeePass, which actually has some great features like clipboard wipe* and database erase on incorrect PIN.
*pretty lucky on my part, that feature was added and released yesterday, good timing or what?!

New Blog
Designers have portfolios of their work and I’ve decided that there’s no reason I shouldn’t also have one. My work is technical, that’s true, but why not catalogue and display those projects on a website like a designer would?
This blog will act as a way for me to post about the work that I’m doing and how successful various projects have been.
